I don’t know what it is about this place exactly that makes me just want to just sit and watch them do their thing, which to the untrained eye looks a lot like nothing!
They are so calm, and peaceful. They sit almost motionless out in the Plains of Saint Augustin.
Yep, there’s a tree next to the observatory.
And yes it stays! We selected this spot for the observatory next to the tree because the sky glow from Albuquerque is in that direction and the tree shields it from some of that obnoxious light. It also shades the dome in the afternoon so cool down time is faster.
that just about sums it up!
We picked up the pier from the welder on Friday and painted and installed it this weekend!
We’re getting real close to having first light in here. You can see the burn marks along the walls where the lightning ran when it struck it last year.
We’ll probably paint over all that, but it’s just a cosmetic thing and nothing critical to function. We still need to install some cushiony tile on the floor so a dropped eyepiece won’t shatter if we drop one.
