I was extremely lucky to catch a shooting star zipping across the southern pole while stargazing in Australia a week ago.
The large smudgy thing is the The Large Magellanic cloud and the meteor zipping through is flying past stars in Octans and Chameleon. The picture quality is not the greatest, but it’s from a small digital camera propped on my camera bag on the hood of the rental car. I have a few more night shots to share, but there’s NOTHING like seeing this in person. It is truly breathtaking to admire in pitch black skies.
